This project examines how artificial intelligence (AI) influences perceptions of fairness in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, focusing on contexts where minority groups, such as in mortgage lending and healthcare, often face injustice. It investigates whether AI evaluators are perceived as more equitable compared to human evaluators and explores how socioeconomic status (SES) shapes these perceptions. We propose that high-SES minorities will view AI as a fairer option, while low-SES minorities may favor human evaluators. The majority group is expected to show no preference. Using experimental methods, we will assess the perceived fairness of AI in DEI initiatives across various minority groups (e.g., Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, and female populations). The findings aim to enhance understanding of how AI can promote fairness in DEI efforts, offering practical insights for businesses seeking to create more equitable and inclusive practices through advanced technologies, ultimately improving brand perception among diverse consumer groups.
