How Scents Can be Used to Improve Consumer Health and Wellbeing

Rising healthcare costs is a serious problem worldwide and is especially acute in the US. High healthcare costs not only lead to adverse economic outcomes but also negatively affects long-term health and wellbeing, especially for marginalized and economically underprivileged groups. In this research, we propose a low-cost intervention to help improve health and wellbeing. Specifically, we examine how citrus scent, as an aromatherapy, can help in health improvements. Studies have shown definitive effects of aromatherapy on favorable physiological outcomes and we propose to extend this stream of work. The findings of this research have meaningful implications for consumer health and wellbeing.
